With an estate overlooking the sprawling hills of Aldie, Virginia, our client wanted a landscape project that maximized his magnificent views. The project included a pool house (including full bath, kitchen, fireplace and audio visual system), an infinity edge pool, hot tub, fire pit, deck, screened room and a sitting area with pergola.
He wanted to use as many natural elements as possible in order to compliment the surroundings. To do so, our team installed tumbled travertine for the pool deck, walkways and pool house paving. All borders and treads were flame finished bluestone to accent the travertine while the walls and step risers were made out of Western Maryland Stone laid with a tight mortar joint.
A very important element for the client was that substantial details be incorporated throughout the project. These details were to find themselves in every element of the finished design, including the cedar ceiling in the screened room, the coffered ceiling in the pool house and marble tile on the bath and shower walls. The project also consisted of a very elaborate lighting plan throughout the hardscape and softscape. The lighting plan also carried into the pool house using under counter lighting of the pool house kitchen and bar, as well as lights placed inside the cabinets to up-light the quartz in the granite chosen.
Further pursuant of his desire for customization and details, special mahogany doors were installed in the pool house and pool storage rooms, a wood mantle was manufactured from one solid piece of wood for the fireplace and solid 4” flamed bluestone was used as legs and headers to accent the firebox.
The biggest complication on this job was to have a natural feeling final project that enhanced the surroundings, while adhering to the client’s desire that everything have a custom detail. Cognizant that too many elaborate details can often take away from the overall aesthetics, we had to give the client what he wanted while tempering his vision. In the end, we were able to successfully bridge the divide and deliver a highly detailed project, incorporating many elements that still flowed with the beautiful surroundings.
